Information about Kachikhali:
The sundarban is the largest single mangrove forest in the
world. It is about 10,000 square kilometres. In Bangladesh the two-third of the
sundarban are situated. Which is about
6017 square kilometres. Kachikhali is
one of the beautiful part of Sundarban.
It is located at Sarankhola Upozilla in Bagerhat district.
It is too far from both Mongla & Khulna.
Kachikhali is under Sundarban East sanctuary. It is 14 km
east to the Katka .This dense forest facing the Bay of Bengal. It has a zone named
“Tiger Point”. It is a beautiful place of Sundarban.
Species of Kachikhali:
The species of Kachikhali is considered on the basis of two
terms

b. Flora.
Fauna :
Mammals
: Chital deer, Wild boar, Porpoise.
Birds :
Crane, Pelicone, wood sandpiper Pied
kingfisher, Brown winged kingfisher .
Reptiles
: Crocodile, Asian common Toad.
Amphibia
: Brown Frog, Water monitor lizards, Asian common Toad.
Fishes : Gangetic dolphin,Flying cat fish,
Porpoise.

Physiography
of Kachikhali :
physiography includes a tide
dominated allochthonus type of mangrove wet land. The mud flats are found at the estuary . The flats are
exposed in low tides and sub merged in high tides, thus being changed
morphologically even in one tidal cycle.
Soil types
and salinity of Kachikhali :
Soil types of
Kochikhali includes silty-clay loams, sandy-clay loams and soil with organic
and peaty deposits. The soil is oxygen deficient and nitrogen content is also
low. Soil pH is more or less acidic. The salinity of surface soil is high
[mostly chloride, bi carbonet salts of sodium, magnesium and calcium ].

Kachikhali region has a warm humid
climate .
Biodiversity
of Kachikhali :
Greater
bio-diversities are found in Kachikhali. Species richness is also high. It is
rich with different kinds of flora and fauna.
Above all it is
an excellent tourist spot of Sundarban.
